In 2002 Magnus was operating a simple famine relief in Malawi when he met a family that led to a whole new area of work.
A mother was lying on the floor of her hut with all of her 6 young children gathered around her. She was dying of AIDS. She knew that the AIDS epidemic had taken so many lives and had left 1 million orphans in Malawi alone. Her main concern was for her children and who would look after them after she died, she say's all she could do was pray for some kind of help. Magnus asked her oldest son what he most hoped for in life, he replyed "To have enough to eat and go to school one day," Magnus never fogot those words. It prompted the campaign, Marys Meals.
This aims to provide chronically hungry children with one meal a day in school. Today they provide meals for around 375000 children in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. In this way the children are encouraged to gain the education that can lift them out of poverty in later life.
